ABOUT THIS DAIRY

Born in Thailand, Dew (Zweed Dairy) is an editorial and publishing designer based in Wurundjeri/Naarm (Melbourne), currently studying at RMIT University. His practice explores experimental and material-driven approaches to publishing, with a focus on print as both a visual and tactile medium.

Working across artist books, zines, and small-scale publications, Dew is interested in how design can document and preserve everyday cultural narratives. His projects often engage with alternative production methods—such as risograph, cyanotype, and textile-based processes—creating outcomes that extend beyond conventional formats.

With an emphasis on structure, material, and process, his work approaches publishing as a way of thinking, making, and storytelling. Each project is developed through research and experimentation, aiming to produce publications that are not only read, but physically experienced.

His ongoing work explores the relationship between typography, cultural memory, and the material conditions of print, with a focus on small, personal, and often
overlooked stories.

001-Type Specimen

PROJECT-001

DESCRIPTION

This specimen book was developed as part of a typography project at RMIT University in 2025, focusing on the exploration of Franklin Gothic, a classic sans-serif typeface designed by Morris Fuller Benton in 1902.

The publication examines the typeface’s formal characteristics, historical context, and continued relevance within contemporary design practice. Through a structured editorial approach, the book aims to present Franklin Gothic not only as a functional type system, but as a historically significant and adaptable tool for modern communication.

The outcome emphasises clarity, hierarchy, and typographic control, positioning the specimen as both an informative reference and a designed reading experience.
